Terms of Service
Team-X is free, open-source software you run on your own machine. These terms are written in plain language. There is no account to create, no service to subscribe to, and no fine print that contradicts the license. Effective 2026-07-12.
1. What Team-X is
Team-X is a free, open-source desktop application for running AI-agent organizations. It is licensed under the MIT license and runs locally on your computer. There is no Team-X account, no Team-X server, and no hosted Team-X service. When you download and run Team-X, you are running software on your own machine, under your own control.
2. The software is provided as is
Team-X is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. This restates, in plain language, the warranty disclaimer in the MIT license, which is the agreement that governs your use of the software.
3. Your license to use, copy, and modify
The MIT license grants you broad rights: to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the software, subject to including the copyright and license notice. If you contribute to the project, your contributions are accepted under the same MIT license. The license text is the authoritative grant; this page only summarizes it.
4. Your AI providers are your responsibility
Team-X connects to the AI providers you choose to configure. You supply your own API keys, you pay each provider directly at that provider's rates, and you are bound by each provider's own terms of service and usage policies. Team-X does not resell provider access, does not mark up provider pricing, and is not a party to your agreement with any provider. If you run entirely on local models through Ollama, no third-party provider is involved at all.
5. Your data and your outputs are yours
Everything Team-X creates runs and stays on your machine: your workspaces, employees, tickets, meetings, vault files, and the outputs your agents produce. You are responsible for what your configured agents do and for any work product they generate. Team-X provides approval gates for destructive and write-side actions, but you remain the operator of your own AI organization.
6. Acceptable use
Use Team-X lawfully. Do not use it to break the law, to infringe the rights of others, or to breach the terms of any AI provider or third-party service you connect to it. Because Team-X runs on your machine and calls providers under your own credentials, you are accountable for the activity you direct through it.
7. Support is community-based
Team-X is maintained in the open. Questions, bug reports, and feature requests go through GitHub issues and discussions. There is no paid support tier and no service-level agreement. Maintainers respond as capacity allows.
8. The Field Notes newsletter
Field Notes is a separate, opt-in email newsletter. If you subscribe, you consent to receive it, and you can unsubscribe from any issue with a single click. What we collect and how we handle it is described in the Privacy Policy. Subscribing to the newsletter is never required to use Team-X.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, and consistent with the MIT license, the authors and copyright holders are not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the software or its use. This includes, without limitation, provider costs you incur, data loss, and the actions of agents you configure. You use Team-X at your own discretion and risk.
10. Changes and contact
These terms may change as the open-source project evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date.
